UKSG’s vision is to “improve the flow of knowledge and the information experience of scholars and researchers”. It’s all too easy to think solely of those scholars and researchers who are working inside of academia, in Higher Education. But we all have a duty to think beyond this and consider how we can open up access to institutions and the knowledge they provide to the wider community.
As Europe’s first integrated public and university library, The Hive in Worcester aims to do just this, opening up opportunities and breaking down barriers.
This webinar will cover some of the practicalities of how such a shared service operates, including: systems integration; budgets, acquisitions and subscriptions; licences and walk-in access; staff and specialist support; and, spaces.
Recognising that not everyone can have a library quite like The Hive, it will also reflect on some lessons and applicability. What can others learn from us? For example, how are you catering to diverse groups? What barriers are there that needn’t be? Can you partner even in much smaller ways to open up access?
