(HELibTech is a UKSG 2023 Innovation Award winner)

The Higher Education Library Technology website helibtech.com has undergone a major transformation with the launch of a new fully updated website.

Originating in a major JISC and SCONUL project on library systems in 2008, HELibTech was established in 2009 by Ken Chad Consulting to enable the work of that project to be kept up to date and expanded. It has developed to provide a wealth of openly licensed, free resources and open datasets on a wide range of technologies libraries use to support learning and teaching, research and the student experience.

What’s changed?

With the support of the UKSG Innovation Awards, HELibTech’s community editors have developed a brand-new website with new improved:

  • Overviews of key aspects of library technology including emerging trends such as AI, user engagement software and collection development tools.
  • Up to date analysis of the UK market for a number of core technologies e.g. library systems, research systems, discovery systems and those that support learning and teaching such as reading list and digitisation solutions.
  • Comprehensive product directory of both software and hardware suppliers and solutions.
  • Easy navigation and presentation of key data tables detailing which systems are used by which institutions.
  • Enhanced search facility, search tags and fully transparent site analytics.

As a free and open community resource, HELibTech welcomes contributions from those working in the sector such as news items, reviews of products, tips on using particular technologies, articles on projects / developments at your institution and material on technology not currently covered by the site.
