Open Scholarship: Issues and Trends in Scholarly Communication

15 April 2019

UKSG is launching a new white paper series. The purpose will be to promote discussion within the field of open scholarship and scholarly communication. White papers will be commissioned which take a thoughtful and provocative approach to the lifecycle of open scholarship, and to the open dissemination of scholarly outputs for knowledge gain, public awareness, and impact.

The white paper series title is Open Scholarship: Issues and Trends in Scholarly Communication, and proposals for the first paper are now invited, covering innovative and disruptive approaches to open scholarship. Successful proposals will be aimed beyond UKSG at a wide audience and are intended for dissemination across the scholarly and publishing community. Details are available on the website.

Funding of £10,000 will be made available to the successful candidate, 50% at outset and 50% upon completion. The successful author will also agree to the UKSG dissemination strategy for the white paper including the following;

  • presentation (plenary, keynote or breakout) at annual UKSG conference 2020
  • Insights article
  • further dissemination to the wider scholarly communication community (eg via UKSG e-news, social media channels, webinars, events, etc)

We expect to communicate details of the successful candidate by the end of September 2019 with the subsequent work schedule to take place from October 2019 with the first draft received by 28 February 2020.
