Essex & Thurrock Join a Framework for the Future: The Libraries Consortium

14 October 2020

TLC (The Libraries Consortium) is the biggest consortium of public library authorities in the UK, comprising 20 public library services sharing expertise, resources, and technology for libraries of today and the future. In 2018, SirsiDynix won the TLC framework contract for the provision of a brand new Library Services Platform that would enable this partnership to offer an enhanced and modernised service to its customer base. The aim of TLC’s partnership is to grow organically in line with key recommendations from industry and government experts to deliver a single digital presence to authorities nationwide.

“Essex and Thurrock Library Services are thrilled to be joining The Libraries Consortium (TLC) and providing our customers with access to nearly 7 million more items of stock,” said Juliet Pirez, Head of Libraries, Customer Services, Essex County Council. “Joining the consortium will provide our customers with a modern and interactive library service which will be available 24/7. We look forward to working with colleagues within the consortium and SirsiDynix on the development of new library services including the new single digital platform.”

“The London Borough of Sutton is pleased to welcome Essex and Thurrock Libraries to The Libraries Consortium (TLC),” said Kelly Saini Badwal, Head of Cultural Services, Chief Executive’s Directorate, London Borough of Sutton. “We now have 20 authorities who have joined TLC, making TLC the largest libraries consortium in England. The number of customers who benefit from a wide range of stock is now at 2.8 million across 254 libraries. TLC has successfully delivered a library management system which meets the needs of customers, and this is being further enhanced with the addition of ‘self-checkout’ on the My Library app. Customers will be able to check out and return items in libraries from their personal mobile devices. As the Lead Authority, we’re working with member authorities to develop a unique digital platform giving customers access to books, events, and services all in one place—a single digital platform.”
