UKSG webinar: Blockchain in research and education with Martin Hamilton, Jisc from UKSG: connecting the knowledge community

“It was really useful listening to Martin Hamilton explaining Blockchain and how it works, without being overly technical or at the same time too simplistic. Still plenty to learn about this new topic for me, but that was a great start.” – Yann Amouroux, Bioscientifica

“UKSG provides excellent webinars discussing both current and future issues of concern and relevance to the community – thank you!” – Virginia Power, University of the West of England

OVERVIEW

There’s a lot of hype right now about blockchain, the technology that underpins the Bitcoin virtual currency, with speculation that it could transform just about every aspect of our lives. In this webinar I’ll consider possible blockchain applications in research and education, and do a little myth-busting about when and where it makes sense to use blockchain.

Date: Thursday 28 September 2017
Time: 1300 BST
Duration: 45-60 minutes including Q&A

Martin Hamilton

Futurist, Jisc

Read a short biography of Martin Hamilton. I work for Jisc in London as a futurist. My role is all about channelling new ideas and new technologies, and helping to build partnerships that will help us to get them to our members. Prior to joining Jisc I ran a supercomputer centre, and I’m a veteran of the eLib programme of the 1990s.
