Contrary to the prevailing trend of consolidation among humanities publishers, Amsterdam University Press is actively pursuing expansion by establishing its own ventures in both Germany and the United States.
“In order to be able to offer German-speaking authors a better and more personalized service, we have founded a publishing house in Berlin,” says Jan-Peter Wissink, owner of Amsterdam University Press. “Our new branch in Ashland, Ohio, also serves as a bridgehead to better represent European authors within academic communities in North America. At the same time, we also want to strengthen our links with American universities,” adds Wissink.
“We are delighted to have found an experienced Managing Director for both companies in Jörg Persch, previously Managing Director at Brill Germany.” Dr. Anke Beck, Head of Public Affairs and Advocacy, Europe, at Frontiers and former Managing Director at De Gruyter, and Dr. Ulrich Herb, Head of Publication and Research Support at the Saarland University and State Library, will join the Advisory Board.
As part of this expansion, AUP are hiring two new German-speaking commissioning editors, read the job specification here.
