Digital archival collections survey

18 February 2019

Jisc has set up a survey about the cost of annual platform, access and service charges that libraries have to pay for digital archival collections/static databases that they typically acquire as one-off perpetual purchases (ie not subscription content).

Jisc has become increasingly aware that Higher Education institutions are concerned about these charges from feedback received from members as well as discussions on various library mailing lists. The survey is intended to find out more so that Jisc can support the sector in taking appropriate actions.

The survey is aimed at those roles within libraries that have either operational or strategic responsibility for the purchasing of content, and in particular digital archival collections, and should take around 15 minutes to complete. Jisc is asking that one survey response is completed per institution although input may come from a number of colleagues. For reference, the text of the survey is also available as a Google doc (but respondents should not use the Google doc to respond to the survey, using the live survey link instead).

The survey should be completed by Friday 16 March 2019. Any questions about the survey should be addressed to Peter Findlay, peter.findlay@jisc.ac.uk.
