EBSCO introduces EBSCOhost® Passport™ Browser Extension

5 April 2023

EBSCO has announced launch of the EBSCOhost® Passport™ browser extension. EBSCOhost Passport provides a more efficient solution for those who begin their search for information on a traditional search engine, allowing them to find, use and cite reliable resources while utilizing their library’s resources.

EBSCOhost Passport allows users who start their research on the web to access and utilize their library’s resources more efficiently. With the addition of the EBSCOhost Passport to a browser, any web page where Digital Object Identifiers (DOI) are present can be scanned to see whether the user has access to the article either in an EBSCOhost full-text database, through a publisher site, or if it is an open access article. Once users find results, they can authenticate with their institution, allowing them to access additional full-text content, including periodicals and articles, through their library.

For select websites, the EBSCOhost Passport will include access to supplemental scholarly information related to the user’s search, provided by EBSCO’s open web research platform, EBSCO Essentials.

EBSCO Information Services Senior Vice President of Discovery, UX & Platform Services, Timothy Lull, says EBSCOhost Passport helps bring users to their library in the way they are most familiar with. “EBSCO understands that many researchers start their search online. EBSCOhost Passport allows this journey to begin with that web search, allowing modern researchers to search the research platform they are most familiar with while connecting them with their affiliated institutions. This gives those who don’t frequent their library’s resources access to information they might not have known was there and promotes future visits to their library.”
