Open Science NL budget cut by half

‘This reduction of the budget by half is a severe blow to open science. Successive Dutch governments have rightly invested in making science more accessible, transparent, and collaborative. Coupled with the other funding reductions, this drastic cut threatens to erode the country’s hard-won advancements and leadership in the field.’

This is how Lex Bouter reacts to the cuts in Open Science NL‘s budget. Bouter is emeritus professor and chairman of the Steering Board of Open Science NL. Instead of €20 million per year, the cabinet plans to allocate only €10 million annually to Open Science NL starting in 2025, for projects aimed at accelerating the transition to open science. This reduction was outlined in the national budget, presented by the cabinet to the Lower House (de Tweede Kamer) on budget day.
