OpenAthens receives platinum in 2025 Modern Library Awards from LibraryWorks

16 January 2025

OpenAthens has received a platinum award in LibraryWorks’ eleventh annual Modern Library Awards (MLAs) for the seventh year in a row.

The MLAs were created to recognize the top products and services in the library industry. Only customers with experience of these products and services were permitted to judge, resulting in a truly unbiased score. Each judge scored the product from 1-10 on a series of questions regarding quality, functionality, value, and customer satisfaction.

Commenting on OpenAthens’ total score of 9.24, commercial director Jon Bentley stated: “The Modern Library Award means a great deal to the entire OpenAthens team because it comes directly from the community. Over many years, it will be 30 in 2025, we have put the library and the librarian at the heart of our product development. This recognition that we are still helping, supporting and solving issues around digital access gives me hope we will make 60 years!”

This year, OpenAthens celebrates 30 years of expertise and exceptional customer experience. OpenAthens helps more than 3,200 organizations worldwide to provide simple and secure access to online resources for their end users.

What the judges said: Feedback from the library judges was anonymized by LibraryWorks and reflects OpenAthens’ commitment to a customer-centric product and high-quality customer service.

One judge commented: “OpenAthens allows us to provide access to resources remotely and seamlessly for a wide variety of user groups within our university. Their helpdesk team are incredibly knowledgeable and responsive in their assistance if we ever need advice and support.”

Jenny Newman, publisher and MLA program manager said: “OpenAthens has consistently scored highly in our award program since 2019. They’ve been at the forefront of the industry since their company entered the market 30 years ago. Congratulations OpenAthens on this year’s award win and happy 30th birthday!”
