Adam Matthew Digital has announced a new collaboration with the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) which will see key items in the RSC’s archive digitised.
Housed at the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust in Stratford-upon-Avon, the RSC archive documents over two centuries of performances through prompt books and other materials. The prompt books were used by directors and stage managers of productions at the Shakespeare Memorial Theatre and Royal Shakespeare Theatre from 1889 until 2013. Productions are not limited to Shakespeare and include a range of key 20th and 21st century playwrights.
In addition to prompt books, the resource includes costume bibles, programmes, music folders, performance photographs and production files containing rehearsal notes, show reports, cast lists, props lists, and much more. These archive materials make up the large body of case studies, which focus on RSC performances, created in coordination with the collection’s editorial board of academics and theatre directors.
