UKSG’s Outreach and Engagement Committee are absolutely delighted to introduce a new podcast series for the scholarly communications sector Knowing me, Knowing UKSG: scholarly comms journeys.

In each episode we will be having an informal conversation with someone inspiring from the knowledge community and ask them to tell us about their career journey and what has motivated them along the way. Career paths are often ‘squiggly’ and can include detours and pitstops. Our guests will share their personal stories and shine a light on how varied the sector is and how there is no ‘one size fits all’ approach to managing your career. The podcast will also explore common issues such as imposter syndrome and share advice on how to maximise opportunities when they are presented.

As members of the scholarly communications community, we know that the sector is constantly evolving, and so are the roles and responsibilities of those working in it. We also understand the importance of sharing experiences and knowledge to help others in the field grow and develop. The idea of a podcast series was a real ‘Ah Ha’ moment for the Outreach and Engagement Committee members who volunteer their time to support our community and help engage early career professionals and students.

Kevin O’Donovan from LSE pitched the initial idea as a way to build quick but meaningful connection with busy professionals: “The training and development team at LSE Library interviewed senior management and leadership colleagues, as a way to demystify the career path for newly qualified librarians. It was a very popular podcast series, so widening the same approach to talk with paraprofessional sector leaders struck me as a straightforward and beneficial move for all colleagues starting out in librarianship and similar roles.

The development of the podcast has been supported by E-news’ very own Tom Morle“Speaking to senior colleagues within the sector about their career journeys so far has illustrated that career journeys are rarely straightforward. I hope that the advice and experiences shared in the podcasts is as beneficial to other colleagues as I have found it”.

This podcast series is a platform where professionals can share their unique stories, experiences, and reflections, creating a dialogue that will inspire and inform the next generation of leaders in our sector. It's for those who want to expand their knowledge, be inspired by the journeys of others, and gain insights that will help them in their own careers. Whether you are just starting out in the sector or are a seasoned professional, this podcast series is for you.

So, join us as we embark on this journey together. Our first few episodes are now live so you can binge on scholarly comms inspiration from the likes of Gavin Phillips, Joanna Ball, Joshua Sendall, Nuala McLaren, Marilyn Clarke and Andrew Barker.
