Jisc’s Institution as e-textbook publisher project was a four-year project investigating the viability of higher education institutions publishing their own e-textbooks.
In addition to publishing eight textbooks, the final output of the project has been to compile and release a toolkit to provide practical help and support to universities wishing to publish their own e-textbooks. The toolkit is aimed at all staff who have an interest in this fast-developing area; information professionals, university press staff, learning and teaching advisors, educational technologists, academic staff and senior university staff.
The toolkit is structured into eight sections, all content is provided with a CC BY licence so it can be shared, re-used and re-purposed:
- Why publish textbooks?
- Publishing
- Support for staff
- Technologies
- Marketing and distribution
- Measures of success
- Students as authors of e-textbooks
The toolkit is now available.
