Global Social Challenges Journal is a non-profit fully open access publication, launched by Bristol University Press, with a mission to address urgent global social issues while breaking down academic silos across disciplines and fields. It will be the first such journal to be grounded in the social sciences whilst also engaging with research from humanities, arts and STEM. We publish on 16 themes which are linked to, but not limited by, the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals
Authors without OA funding who submit before 31 December 2022 will have their Article Processing Charges waived. Thereafter, discounts and waivers will be offered to those without funding and those from countries in the low, medium and high UN Human Development categories.

"I’m proud to see Bristol University Press launching this important new journal, which promises to address the most urgent complexities of global social challenges by drawing together accessible international scholarship across the disciplines to inform policy and practice.” Professor Judith Squires, Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Provost, University of Bristol
“This brand new journal aims at engaging the full range of ‘social’ conditions we confront. I fully support this opening up of a broader domain than has been the usual in the social sciences.” Professor Saskia Sassen, Columbia University, New York
“In a world faced with global social challenges, narrow technical solutions and win-win scenarios abound. Too often, they evade the rigorous, collaborative work that forging just resolutions to global social challenges demands. Grounded in the social sciences, the journal will bring fresh perspectives to urgent conversations and foster open debate.” Tania Li, University Professor, Department of Anthropology, University of Toronto and Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada
